Rogue Wave – Out Of The Shadow – Revisited

by Raj on August 24, 2005

Rogue Wave’s “Descended Like Vultures” caused me to revisit the record they released last year entitled “Out Of The Shadow.” I remember listening to it when it originally came out, but for some reason it didn’t strike me as being something that I would rush back to on a daily basis as I consistently have with DLV. “Out Of The Shadow” sounds much more straight forward in many respects — there aren’t as many surprises or unsual parts, vocal or otherwise, compared to “Descended Like Vultures.”

As I listen to “Out Of The Shadow,” I remind mysef that I shouldn’t write a particular band off completely based upon one record. Not that it’s completely abysmal, but it’s just wasn’t interesting enough for me to revisit more than once or twice. If you’re a completist, then obviously you need the have the record. But if you’re a casual listener and are only checking out Rogue Wave for the first time, buy the “10:1″ EP and then wait for “Descended Like Vultures” when it’s released in October.

I’m right with you on this one (although “Be Kind + Remind” from the first one is pretty nice).
