Tickets To The Sea, Georgia Aquarium

by Raj on November 21, 2005

I was having a great discussion yesterday evening with Jerry Stover regarding the philanthropic nature of people and the resulting benefit to society at large. The discussion really focused around a central theme: things like the Georgia Aquarium don’t just happen when left to governments — wealthy, motivated people have to want to make it happen for people.

In my phone conversation with Jerry, I mentioned recently reading about philanthropy of the Walton Family on Mark’s blog, compared to Bill Gates. The numbers are truly outstanding. The evil empire line becomes more visible when you begin to consider who really benefits from one’s personal wealth. I’m not a huge supporter of Gates for a variety of reasons, but when you compare him to the Waltons it’s hard to hate him so much.

So, thanks to Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot, for his $200 million.

Hmmm. Yes, yes. Now it’s coming back to me. That’s why you and I never have conversations that wander beyond intellectual topics such as “The Cheetah vs. The Gold Club, make your case.”

no reason to bring naked women into the conversation……however, it would have been a nice way to top off a birthday

besides, the Gold Club is no more. and never having had a chance to experience the place, I can not knowledgeably argue for or against

I say let the fish swim. When was the last time that city got some good press? ohhh let’s see…the Olympics. All was going well till some right wing nut decided to play with gunpowder. Let the fish swim, maybe we can torture with hooks
