I lived in Raleigh, NC twice between 1990 and 1995 and was heavily influenced by the music from the area known as “The Triangle,” which consists of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
The sound at the time was mixed between bands that played jangly guitar pop and those that were more punk inspired. A handful of bands stood out from my listening perspective including The Connells, Dillon Fence, Superchunk, and Ben Folds. I picked some of my favorite tracks from those years in North Carolina.
Here’s a tracklist:
Dillon Fence – Queen Of The In-Between
Dillon Fence – Collapsis
Dillon Fence – Frances
Superchunk – Slack Motherfucker
Superchunk – Driveway To Driveway
Queen Sarah Saturday – Bee
Veldt – CCCP
The Connells – New Boy (Live)
The Connells – Too Gone
The Connells – Running Mary (Live Acoustic)
Ben Folds – Philosophy
Ben Folds – Alice Childress
Ben Folds – Best Imitation Of Myself
Ben Folds – The Last Polka
Sibylle Baier – Tonight

music was good, too bad for all of the chat btwn songs. wholly unecessary
Thanks Kate. Glad you like the music. The chat is actually necessary to help identify the songs and maybe a little background on the artist. It’s kinda like traditional radio broadcasting. You know — but without the radio part. It’s nice to let people know who they’re listening to and shit.
The rest of the stuff is all golden, but I could never get into Dillon Fence. They just seem too… something.
This rocks! Especially the CCCP track by The Vedlt.
You made my King day DUDE!

kate – chill out, damn we need the trainspotting between (i liked the backing track more than the few first dillon songs too actually and the world music backing was great the other week) but again, lovn the work of the raj; the next noncoverville’caster. hey, one day when u r out of ideas.. i think an old school reggae, ska and hip hop show.. grandmaster, edpmd, krs1, big daddy kane, nwa, and some bob marley (liking damiens new album), peter dosh – oh and some ska – the specials especially !!! damn we’d need to skypecast that one !!!
