Facebook

To be in your early 20’s and to be reportedly selling your company for $2B is simply awesome. If Facebook gets anywhere near that: congrats to the management team and the investors.

The GBV podcasts continue unabated, “Alone, Stinking And Unafraid!” I started where I left off last time with the Mag Earwhig! era releases. This notably marks the introduction of Doug Gillard and Cobra Verde as the GBV backing band and the departure of Tobin Sprout. The change in direction and sound is [...]

The Register

Say what you want about The Register and their credibility in regards to the misreported news of Steve Jobs selling Apple shares (when he didn’t) even though Michael Parekh points out that they really jumped the gun.  Yeah, it’s hogwash and malarky (at the same time even).
Even The Register can’t make up the story regarding [...]

Speaking Of Vinod

Here’s a link to a picture of him with his ethanol powered Chevy Tahoe.

Vinod is at it again. Besides his own VC firm, he’s also urging Californians to endorse clean energy. Turning agricultural waste into fuel makes good sense to me as does reducing the country’s dependency on foreign energy sources.
Mr Khosla is particularly enthused by “cellulosic” ethanol, a highly efficient way of making fuel from [...]

I can usually rely on SandHill.com for thought provoking business, technology, and venture capital articles, but a recent article by Guy Smith falls short of the usual.
While I admire his ability to be creative in regards to what might constitute an enterprise mashup, the reality is that the engineering costs alone might far exceed what [...]

BMW 2002 Update

Here’s a list of significant recent developments in the quest to restore “Eugene,” my 1969 BMW 2002.
1.  Entire car has been primed.  Needs to be sanded.
2.  Interior trunk, engine bay, and wheel wells have final paint.
3.  German wool carpet arrived and delivered to the shop.
4.  Engine and suspension go back in starting tomorrow.
The process seems [...]

Entrepreneurial Proverbs

Matt McCall writes via Tim Draper via Marc Hedlund:
These are not tech specific by the way.

Tom’s Of Maine, Interpol

Looks like Tom’s Of Maine and Interpol are both selling out (to the man). Tom is selling 84% of his company to Colgate for $100M.  Interpol is rumored to have signed to Interscope, leaving my beloved Matador.
My daily Tom’s Of Maine flavor:  Fennell w/ whitening.  My favorite Interpol song:  NYC.

Band Of Horses - Pitchfork Review

If you’ve even partially been paying attention, you would know that I have been uber bullish of the Band Of Horses debut record entitled “Everything All The Time.”
I hardly agree with the very basis of assigning numerical values to art, but I’m glad to see that this record gets an 8.8 —- whatever the fuck [...]

Sopranos

If you were a Sopranos character, who would you be? My sister says that I would be Janice, Tony’s sister. Personally, I would say Christopher Moltisanti, Tony’s nephew.

Some old, some new songs make up this week’s podcast. It’s hard to believe that I have done 20 of these now. It’s a fun outlet and I hope to continue doing it as big changes are coming about in the near future.
Here’s a tracklist:
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Pyrite Pedestal
I Love You [...]

Thatha, KP Subbaraman

I have been arguing whether or not it’s appropriate to write about the loss of a family member in my blog. I initially felt rather strange to think of sharing such personal details with the outside world through this outlet. The transparency of blogging allows for readers to see multiple dimensions of the [...]

Polymorphism Explained

Object-oriented programmaging is full of boring examples. Not this one.

Kopelman

Josh isn’t giving himself enough credit when he says “I’m afraid that people would realize that I’m not that smart” in reference to his initial hesitation at blogging.
He has a number of posts worth reading already. And he just got added to the top of my “VC Bloggers” list in my feed reader. [...]
