The Register

Say what you want about The Register and their credibility in regards to the misreported news of Steve Jobs selling Apple shares (when he didn’t) even though Michael Parekh points out that they really jumped the gun.  Yeah, it’s hogwash and malarky (at the same time even).

Even The Register can’t make up the story regarding CentOS and the City of Tuttle, OK recently.  It’s hilarious.  Apparently, an outage at the ISP that hosts the city’s website caused some IT admins to reinstall or reconfigure their Linux hosts without restoring the website.

This not only caused confusion on the part of the city manager who has “22 years in computer systems engineering and operation,” he decided to take it out on the OS vendor who happened to be CentOS.  Threatening to call the FBI should never be your first move.  It’s bound to backfire.  And it did.  Read the entire email thread here.
