I was asked to put together a group of interesting folks to discuss issues related to, the oft abused moniker, Web 2.0 for the TiECon East event held in Waltham, MA on May 30.
I picked people that I thought were the most interesting and capable of having a conversation about the future of [...]

I found myself recently doing a ton of Google searches using something like “liquidation preference site:feld.com” or “implicit site:avc.blogs.com” and I realized that I should just create a Google Co-op search using these sites instead.
I was having a conversation with Rafer recently and he said something that clued me into the name of my new search engine: [...]

I have been writing about software for enterprises for a long time. Some of that writing focused on the new era of applications and some of it was more focused on the traditional side. In either case, I felt that it needed it’s own life rather than continue to be mixed with things like my [...]

I should start a blog called “Khosla Watch” because it appears that I have a man crush. I said appears. Some of the handwritten notes in the article entited “What Makes Entrepreneurs Entrepreneurial” are priceless. Priceless gems such as “typical MBA horseshit” in reference to a suicide quadrant and then “commie horseshit” marks an entire [...]

Vinod Khosla did an interview with Dateline NBC that you should watch if you’re interested in how America will relinquish dependence on foreign oil sources in the future by using ethanol rather than traditional petroleum based fuel sources.
One’s imagingation can run wild when thinking about all the countries that could emerge as future fuel heavy-weights [...]

Dan’l Lewin writes a must read article for AlwaysOn entitled, “Is India At The Tipping Point?” He writes about the rise of the Offshore Product Development company (OPD) building “whole products for their clients at about one-third the cost.” It’s not just about building products though — it’s about domain expertise. The labor arbitrage game [...]

So the acquisition rumors some months ago were half true. Atlanta based JBoss is being acquired by Raleigh based RedHat for $350M with a $70M earnout. It makes a ton of sense for RedHat to own JBoss in my opinion. They’re both based in the South and both are fundamentally open-source initiatives, [...]

The most recent $8M from Sequoia puts them at $11.5M total. YouTube recently announced that they were limiting the running minutes on videos uploaded to the site in order to reduce the amount of copywritten content.
If I was an IP attorney, I would be incredibly concerned with the legal ramifications of making money on the [...]

To be in your early 20’s and to be reportedly selling your company for $2B is simply awesome. If Facebook gets anywhere near that: congrats to the management team and the investors.

Vinod is at it again. Besides his own VC firm, he’s also urging Californians to endorse clean energy. Turning agricultural waste into fuel makes good sense to me as does reducing the country’s dependency on foreign energy sources.
Mr Khosla is particularly enthused by “cellulosic” ethanol, a highly efficient way of making fuel from [...]

Josh isn’t giving himself enough credit when he says “I’m afraid that people would realize that I’m not that smart” in reference to his initial hesitation at blogging.
He has a number of posts worth reading already. And he just got added to the top of my “VC Bloggers” list in my feed reader. [...]

I’m not sure why I bother reading his blog when it feels like I’ve read his posts before. Actually, I have read some of his posts elsewhere. They seem to come from his recent book, “The Art Of The Start.”
Just read his books and you can skip his blog. Personally, I think [...]

I can’t comment on this too much for certain reasons, but I will say that this is important for software companies in the enterprise space — Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft in particular.
Open-source Content Management applications for the enterprise is going to be game changing.

There doesn’t seem to be a ton of blog buzz about USV and their recent announcement that they’ve joined the investor team supporting Feedburner.
I think I know why. It’s a no brainer investment. Does Feedburner have even a competitor for RSS feed stats? If they do have such, the competition [...]
