Tom and Kevin both pointed that if you attempt to post a comment before filling out the form field that I included to battle comment spam, you end up losing your post. It prevented me from getting any comment spam at all, but results in a lost comment if you submit the comment sans [...]

Flock has everything that I love about Firefox with the addition of blog and Flickr integration.  Forget about using browser plug-ins for things like blogging — it’s native in Flock.
If only certain Microsoft sites would support something other than IE…

Have you ever pressed the “door open” button in an elevator with the door open, waited a second, only to realize that the door is still open? You then press the “door close” button and go on your merry way.
That’s clearly bad UI design. The “door open” button is never valid when the [...]

Full disclosure:  I worked for EMC under the Documentum brand until recently.
Dave DeWalt discusses why EMC is so successful in spite of the fact that most software company mergers result in failure in an article on SandHill.com.  It’s a great read for anyone interested in software M&A.
In the article, he discusses some of the inherent [...]

Symphony Technology Group announced recently that it was acquiring Hummingbird for $465M.  This is significant in that another ECM player is being taken off the market though Wall Street thinks that the offer amount was too low.
Hummingbird has steadily been losing market position against the mainstays over the years.  Symphony might be just the right [...]

I have been using MyYahoo to read RSS feeds for longer than I remember.  But it simply doesn’t work with my needs these days.  The next iteration of feed reading in Yahoo Mail looks less than promising.  As a matter of fact, it looks and feels downright awful.  They really need to reconsider basic aspects [...]

Speaking of virtualization, rumor abounds that Microsoft is in talks to acquire Softricity.  It would be a very smart acquisition in my opinion for two reasons:  1) they failed to acquire VMWare and 2) Softricity has unique IP, completely differentiated from the others.
So, if their technology is so unique, what the hell does it have [...]

I follow the market that VMWare dominates because I think that virtualization of the x86 processor is a significant achievement of mankind.  Faking out operating systems to make them believe that physical hardware exists is just really, really cool.
Whenever I ask myself if something is technically possible through software engineering efforts, I have to remind [...]

I had a conversation with a friend of mine recently about the cost of goods in India.  Some things are still a bargain compared to the West.  I routinely have dinner for under $2.  Lately, I have been topping dinner off with a Falooda for an extra 60 cents.  A rather complete lunch is served [...]

A VC friend of mine who focuses on the consumer space recently quipped that the word “repository” means “proprietary” to him. To a certain extent he’s correct in that the back-end data models of repositories are always unique by vendor, but a repository might be a necessary evil in the enterprise.  Without repositories, user-behavior [...]

Let me get something out on the table:  I’m a schwag whore.  I’m too modest to ask for it, but will gladly accept it when offered.   And if I can have it delivered monthly for the low, low cost of $14.95 —- well then sign my ass up.

Chris Messina spoke about microformats at BarCampBangalore. It’s a subject that I have been thinking quite a bit about lately. Specifically, I have been thinking about the hAtom microformat because of it’s relevance to my startup.
In general, microformats introduce a standard way of describing elements in a web page. Contact information can [...]

I was in Bangalore this past weekend for BarCampBangalore and I can honestly say:  It was one of the most worthwhile events I have attented in quite some time.  I met some very nice and intelligent folks who I will blog about when I can find something other than dial-up.  I had the good fortune of [...]

(Full disclosure: I worked for EMC/Documentum until recently.)
I have blogged about enterprise search before here, here and here. By the way, what is with the blogging trend where people link to themselves using the famililar “here, here, and here” moniker? And many bloggers seem to be “musing” about something or another when [...]

No doubt, it’s true and predicted to rise.  Add me to list of 800 Americans seeking opportunity in India.  Rather ironic, no?  Hundreds of thousands of Indians flock to the West seeking H1B visas or even better — permanent residency while scores of Westerners line-up to invest in India.  That’s globalization and I love it [...]
