Berkeley is offering a series of lectures from various classes in podcast and/or video format for general public consumption. I love the open format of it all and applaud the use of new media. There are a number of classes that I am interested in. One in particular entitled “Data Structures” is something I have [...]

Digg appears to have become a cross between high school and a soap opera. Melrose Place, maybe?

Kiko closed it’s doors. Everyone in the echo chamber knows that now. All 90,000 of us. They have important lessons for startup guys like me: Keep focused, build smart, keep it simple.
But my issue with any online calendar application that’s not Google Calendar or something integrated into Microsoft is that you’re not part of the [...]

Flock has everything that I love about Firefox with the addition of blog and Flickr integration. Forget about using browser plug-ins for things like blogging — it’s native in Flock.
If only certain Microsoft sites would support something other than IE…

Let me get something out on the table: I’m a schwag whore. I’m too modest to ask for it, but will gladly accept it when offered. And if I can have it delivered monthly for the low, low cost of $14.95 —- well then sign my ass up.

Chris Messina spoke about microformats at BarCampBangalore. It’s a subject that I have been thinking quite a bit about lately. Specifically, I have been thinking about the hAtom microformat because of it’s relevance to my startup.
In general, microformats introduce a standard way of describing elements in a web page. Contact information can [...]

Vast has been getting a decent amount of buzz today, especially given the TechCrunch story .
It’s Naval Ravikant’s new deal. I like the idea of content aggregators and I like Vast, but my very first search using the product demonstrates some of the inherent challenges with their approach.
They make structure out of unstructured data [...]

At what point do I need to stop adding web services to my blog or any other application? I’m not pimpin’ my blog with all the latest bits of code that one could drop into the sidebar, but I’m noticing a performance hit when attempting to load the first page.
Others have noticed too. [...]

I was going to send this link to a particular friend who is getting a start in the world of programming, but I thought I would share it with the rest of my del.icio.us challenged friends who also might have an interest.
Web page refreshes suck ass(tm). Ajax is here to help.
Mastering Ajax, Part 1: [...]

Though Podzinger still appears to have some way to go, early results indicate that these guys are onto something special that Odeo and Podshow can’t touch.
Podzinger indexes the content of an audio podcast. Podcast search is finally exciting. I never really liked Odeo and Podshow to begin with because they seem so lacklustre [...]

I was lucky enough to get an invite to play around with the alpha release of Riya. I am highly impressed with what they have been able to accomplish. It must be an engineering challenge on mutiple levels considering the level of technical experience required for facial recognition.
I’ll post more thoughts as I [...]

I was skeptical at first when I read about Riffs. I gave it a shot — I’m hooked. I added their web service hook on my side bar.
You know what it’s like to riff on something, right? Of course you do. We all do it. Especially people like [...]

I’ve been waiting for this and it seems that they quietly slipped some new features into the product. Some tweaking to their site has brought about some commendable changes. Check it out here.
I have added my delicious tags to my blog directly under the “Recent Post” section. The larger the tag, the [...]

Content Management is what Google Base is all about. A database is made up of rows and records (structured), but most user data like documents, spreadheets, and pictures (unstructured) doesn’t fit squarely into such confined parameters. Google CM allows the public internet to make sense of otherwise unstructured data elements. They’re simply [...]
